CLEVEDON Reserves were rampant after scoring eight away goals to crush top of the league Nailsea in a one-sided league match.
Managers Allan Finnie and Colin Goatley were delighted with the response from their team after they lost the services of influential captain Ben Burns and top goal scorer Russ Gregory prior to kick off.
The motivation to gain promotion this season was enough inspiration for the visitors and Mike Banks grabbed a hat-trick with his first coming after being put through by Craig Clothier and finishing with ease.
Nick Lee then picked out Luke Hyde, before sending the keeper the wrong way. Clothier added a quick third with after spotting the keeper off his line.
Nailsea were in all sorts of problems defensively and United carved them open again with a fine flowing move that resulted with Lee finding the back of the net with a fierce 20-yard drive. Stand-in captain Nathan Price then got in on the act, adding a back post header.
Mark Welch, Ben Pavey, Tony Gibson and Price controlled the game with ease from the back and kept Clevedon’s forwards and wide men busy with plenty of ball for the second half.
United continued their blistering pace and Banks quickly completed his hat-trick with a front post header before using his pace to hold off two defenders and chipping the ball over the advancing keeper.
Clothier’s free kick was flicked on by Banks and Chris Greenslade finished from close range to seal an emphatic win with some style.
