Portishead Town Ladies kept their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Frome Town.

Portishead Town Ladies travelled to play Frome Town in the South West Women’s League, looking to protect their unbeaten start to the season.

Portishead started brightly and in the 10th minute Michelle Venton crossed for Shannon Holloway to score with a well-placed shot. This sparked Frome into life and their centre forward made a good chance for herself which Chloe Fensome in goal gathered comfortably.

Although Portishead played their trademark passing game, it was not until the 39th minute that Ruby Lowe broke down the wing and crossed for Holloway to score the second.

The second half saw Frome come out and play with more purpose, upping the tempo and causing Portishead problems which they managed to absorb and in the 62nd minute a flowing move including Hannah Thornton and Imogen Fisher, concluded with Holloway crossing for Lowe to score from inside the box.

Frome continued to look for a goal and they beat Fensome in the Portishead goal, only for the shot to rebound off the crossbar and drop safely. In the 88th minute, Frome gave away a free kick 35 yards out which Thornton smashed in over the wall to conclude the scoring in this 4-0 win.

Robert John Hairdressing player of the match was awarded to Emily Dawe.

The Reserves struggled to break down the Crewkerne defence in the first half with strong runs down the wings from Jo Dulieu and Aimee Fella being denied.

However, Gemma Bryant, making her comeback after a season break, stormed through to make it 1-0 after 40 minutes. Crewkerne were quick to stop the celebrations with a goal to make it 1-1 at the break.

Portishead Town were quick off the mark in the second half and Ellie Howard made it 2-1 with her strong play in the centre of midfield, and found her second soon after.

Eloise Hubbard made it 4-1 after her runs down the wing paid off and Howard completed her hat-trick from the edge of the box.

Dulieu was rewarded with a wel-deserved goal 10 minutes from the end of the game with a close range shot. Bryant finished the game with a shot from 30 yards out to lob the Crewkerne keeper to make it 7-1.

Robert John Hairdressing play of the match was awarded to Phoebe Sherborne.
