Portishead Town Ladies netted their 100th goal of the season during a 4-1 victory over Bishops Lydeard.

The team got off to a flying start, with Ruby Lowe volleying home a belter of a cross from Dr Sarah Badger. With the home side somewhat in disarray, Portishead continued the attack with some stinging runs down the flanks, with Badger’s audaciously looping cross from the left picking out Lowe again, who hammered it into the back of the net.
Portishead were not to have it all their way, however, with Lydeard rallying and beginning to find their way through the away side’s midfield. A probing ball was taken by the Bishops Lydeard striker, who drove it away from keeper Jules Deloco and into the bottom corner.
The second half saw both teams raise the tempo, with Bishops Lydeard trying some long balls over the top, but the Portishead back four displayed some stoic defending and remained immoveable.
The away side countered with some quick passing play down the wings, but the Lydeard keeper pulled out a series of impressive stops until Shannon Holloway sped through an opening and retained her composure to curl the ball coolly past the keeper.
With the game drawing to a close, Bishops Lydeard ramped up their attack and gained a sequence of corners to test the tiring away side. Portishead held strong, throwing every player behind the ball and Deloco pushed a glancing header safely away past the post.
In a moment of theatrical crescendo in the last breath of the game, Portishead broke and found Holloway, who charged away from the home side’s defence before thundering the ball home to claim Portishead’s 100th goal of the season.
Player of the match went to Sarah Badger. Portishead take on Pen Mill next weekend in a match which, if they come out with all three points, would see the side win the league.
