Portishead Town Ladies returned from unbeaten league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett with all three points.

Portishead Town Ladies travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett to play the unbeaten league leaders and came back with all three points.

Having played out a 1-1 draw two weeks ago, both sides were looking to take away the others unbeaten league record.

Portishead edged the opening exchanges and Jess Smailes broke the deadlock in the 21st minute taking a corner which was cleared back to her which she smashed into the top corner from outside the box.

In the 35th minute, Bassett had a corner which was cleared, however the referee saw a foul on Laura Gammon and awarded Bassett a penalty which Cara Costello slotted neatly past Chloe Fensome in the Portishead goal.

Portishead came out for the second half with much more purpose and dominated the match, but had to wait until 10 minutes from the end to score two quick goals, firstly Hannah Thornton turned in a Taylor Gainey corner, before Michelle Venton turned in from close range after Gainey had hit the bar.

Portishead host Chippenham Ladies tonight (Wed) under the floodlights at Bristol Road, kick-off 7.45pm.

Robert John Hairdressers player of the match was Sarah Hopper.
