Portishead hoped to build on their hard-earned win at Calne the previous week when they entertained improving Bishop Sutton on a blustery day at Bristol Road.

The combination of the wind and an inconsistent bounce resulted in a sterile first 20 minutes with neither keeper having much to do.

The Bristol Road faithful woke up from their slumber though when on 24 minutes, Dan Hamblin’s corner found an unmarked Alex Fox in the middle of the penalty area from where he coolly planted his header in to the top corner to put Posset in front.

This seemed to rally Sutton who began to put some passes together and some neat inter-play on 33 minutes resulted in Courtney Charles running through the middle to finish with aplomb from Shomari Sengor’s clever pass.

Town thought they had retained the lead shortly but Harrison Williams was ruled offside when he tapped in after good work by Tyler Davis on the right.

All square at half-time and the home support hoped for something better after the interval, but the visitors continued to be more consistent in possession. They did not trouble George Shanks-Boon too much, as Fox and Will Cook defended solidly in the middle, but once too often the ball was given away.

On 61 minutes, Jack Metcalfe expertly placed his shot across Shanks-Boon to put his side in front. Without ever really being on their game, Posset did cause a couple of alarms in the Sutton defence near the end, but their efforts were either blocked or scrambled away and Sutton deservedly took home the three points.

A bad day at the office for Portishead, although Dan Hamblin defended well at left-back and worked hard throughout.
