Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves recorded another vital hard-fought win at the Lancer Scott Stadium in this local derby against Ashton & Backwell.

Jamie Smith’s team came into the game still unbeaten in the league this season, with the home side in good form, also winning their previous four matches.

A couple of changes for the away side with the experienced Ryan King and ex-Backwell defender Jamie Evans returning to the starting line-up.

Nailsea & Tickenham dealt well with the direct style of the home team in the first 10 minutes and then started to impose themselves in the match, scoring after 20 minutes after a great cross from Joe Berry found the head of top scorer Mark Ashley to fire the away side in front.

Berry continued to cause problems for the home team with strong runs and the central midfield partnership of Wes Bracey and Chris Corner started to dominate. Ashley increased the lead to 2-0 with another great header into the bottom corner, leaving keeper Charlie Matthews with no chance.

Ashton & Backwell worked hard to find a way back into the game, but Nailsea’s experienced back four of Soper, Parsons, Evans and Yeo defended well, giving little space to the home side.

Nailsea made it three, again after excellent play down the right between Parsons, Faiers and Berry, resulted in a header back across goal from Ashley - finished by Wes Bracey.

Ashton & Backwell introduced Cordelle Young from the bench and he had an immediate impact with his pace catching the home side flat and creating opportunities.

The home side were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes to go, but it was saved well by Mark Wilson and Nailsea scrambled away from the rebound.

Ashton did get a deserved consolation goal in the final 10 minutes, but Nailsea will be delighted to have seen the final whistle blow for a 1-3 victory and another three points.

The Blue Flame man of the match was Joe Berry.
