PORTISHEAD Reserves travelled to Combe St Nicholas looking to extend their recent good run of form and to spoil the home team’s unbeaten home record.

Posset started the game playing up the slope on a heavy pitch. The away side had the better of things, only to fall a goal behind to a breakaway goal.

The visitors fell further behind 10 minutes later to a scrappy goal that bobbled over the leg of James Hailwood in goal on one of the many icy patches on a pitch that was in a poor state.

Portishead got back into the game when good work by Luke Jones set up William Payne to smash home from 12 yards. Buoyed by this, Posset kept up the pressure and equalised just before half-time when Edd Dunn scored.

With the slope now in Posset’s favour, the away side took the lead when Simon Kelly broke clear and scored at the second attempt after his first shot was well saved. It was no surprise when they scored a fourth goal after excellent work by Sam Ewing. He crossed the ball into the box and the alert Kelly powered home a header.

Combe came back into the game in the 70th minute with a good goal to make it 3-4. With 10 minutes left, a poor challenge on George Parsons left him with a nasty gash to his knee that needed hospital treatment.

A mass brawl ensued involving all the players and coaching staff of both teams. The referee then decided to abandon the game at this point.

The Richwood Construction man of the match was Sam Ewing.
