Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves faced top of the table Saltford, who had an impressive unbeaten record going into this Somerset County Division 1 league match.

Chris Corner made his long-awaited return to action following a year out with a broken leg with a place on the bench. Manager Jamie Smith welcomed back Max Richards and Jack Towill, as well as giving a starting place to 16-year-old Charlie Oates.

N&T started brilliantly with an early chance in the first minute when strike partners Berry and captain Steadman combined only for the latter to see his effort go just wide.

The away side then took the lead after 25 minutes when an unfortunate slip by Richards allowed the Saltford striker time to pick out the bottom corner of goalkeeper Sam Cooper’s net.

N&T always looked a threat on the break and had a chance to level the scores when Berry was fouled in the box. Steadman’s penalty hit the post and the Swags could not follow up.

An evenly contested second half saw chances at both ends, but no breakthrough as the clock ticked down.

In the final 10 minutes and with a final throw of the dice Craig Adams was moved up front alongside Berry and Steadman and it was Adams who netted the equaliser with a excellent volley.

The Reserves completed the comeback in added time when Joe Berry latched onto a loose backpass. Berry nipped in front of the keeper and lobbed his effort into an empty net from just inside the Saltford half to secure all three points.

The S&R Burchill’s man of the match was Joe Berry.
