Portishead Under-13s reached the Woodspring Cup final after a thrilling 3-2 win at Burnham.
PORTISHEAD Under-13s clinched their place in this year’s Woodspring Cup final with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Burnham.
The visitors took an early command in the match in what turned out to be a sparkling first half performance. A fine Hugo Miles effort from distance gave Portishead a deserved lead. Burnham, despite their lively endeavour could not live with the visitors pace and fluency with Tyler Manning and David Warnes in the thick of the action.
It was Miles again who doubled his and his teams tally with a goal direct from a corner. When Portishead put together the move of the match involving every member of the team ending with a clinical finish from Tyler Ashmead, the game looked over.
However, in true cup tradition, the game changed when Burnham made the most of hesitancy in the visitors defence to pull a goal back just before the break.
The second half proved a more equal contest none more so after the hosts had added a second with a fine strike. Portishead keeper Will Bennett had to be at his best to keep his side in front.
Oskar Todd and Jared Ford battled to keep the hosts at bay as a number of half chances went begging for both sides, but it was the visitors who held out to take their place in the final. Man of the match was shared by Hugo Miles and Tyler Manning.
In a hard-fought encounter, the Under-15s took all three points against Berrow, but were made to battle for them.
A well-struck free kick from Luke Shaddick put Portishead in front, but Berrow battled back with an equaliser as the first half finished 1-1.
The busy Joe Rich struck the second for Portishead and Billy Sweeting made the game safe with Juniors’ third.
n SWISS Valley Rangers Under-12s started strongly and took the lead against Churchill through two well-taken Max Petty goals.
Churchill responded brightly to draw level with two goals either side of half-time. Swiss Valley then began to dominate the game and scored five more times with two for Jake Davis and one apiece for Stanley Livingstone, Tom Bryant and Jordan Pooley. Man of the match was Tom Bryant.
n NAILSEA Athletic Under-11s got off to a slow start against Priory Vikings and were only one goal up from Danny Robbins by half-time.
After a tough team talk, Athletic got their act together and the second half saw a return to winning form with Reece Pippen’s classy free kick putting them two up. Ethan Jones’ hard work fighting off the Priory defence was rewarded with a third goal.
Taylor Edden took Yorkie Man for his adept passing and a string of strong defensive moves gave Dan Seager the man of the match.
