Clevedon travelled to Newton Abbot to take on fourth-placed Buckland Athletic and came away worthy winners following a superb team performance that produced two excellently taken goals and completed the double over their opponents.

Clevedon were quickly out of the blocks and in the second minute Glen Hayer found Tyler Ashmead in space and he crossed into the middle where captain Kevin Camargo’s shot was deflected behind for a corner.

On six minutes, young Clevedon keeper Will Bennett had to be alert to push a shot from Richard Groves over the bar.

Clevedon took the lead in the 16th minute when Alex Camm made progress before finding James Fisher on the edge of the box and he spun past his marker before curling a lovely shot into the far corner of the net to make the score 0-1.

Clevedon were grateful to Bennett on the half-hour when he stood his ground forcing the striker to shoot straight at him.

Clevedon doubled their lead on 31 minutes with a well-worked goal. Glen Hayer found Sam Downe and he played the ball through the middle for Fisher to collect in his stride and stroke the ball past the advancing Grant Fisher and into the corner of the net.

Town could have gone into the break further ahead on 45 minutes when another rampaging run by Tyler Ashmead saw him get into the box before unleashing a shot that was heading into the far corner of the net before Fisher stuck out a leg to deflect the ball away.

After the break, Buckland tried to get back into the game and although they had a significant amount of possession they were unable to create any clear-cut chances.

This was largely due to the tireless efforts of the entire Clevedon team to chase back and close down their opposite number.

Clevedon had a great chance to completely finish off the home side in the 79th minute when Fisher ran at the middle of the Buckland defence and it took three players to stop him, with the ball rebounding into the path of Camm who found himself 12 yards out with only Fisher to beat.

Unfortunately for the Clevedon man his shot was straight at the Buckland keeper who still had to make a reflex save to push the ball over the bar.

Clevedon are next in action on Good Friday when they welcome Cribbs to The Everyone Active Stadium with a 3pm kick-off.

Clevedon Town: W Bennett, T Ashmead, O Barry, C Kingdon, G Hayer, K Gazzard, J Fisher (I Reid 82), K Camargo (c), A Camm, J Boughton (R Gissing 90), S Downe.
