Disappointing away defeat for Gryphons

Gryphons returned from Plymouth with a disappointing defeat against a well-drilled university side.

Gryphons came home from Plymouth with a disappointing 4-2 loss to a well-drilled university first team side.

The first 10 minutes presented even play and could have gone either way, but Plymouth scored two goals shortly after and looked to be the stronger side by retaining possession by pinging the ball around the back and waiting for opportunities to progress up the pitch.

Gryphons had a break just before the half time whistle, with Lara Ford capitalising to bring the score back to 2-1 and give the Gryphs a chance moving into the second half.

The visitors started strongly again, with hard work in the middle from player of the match Elaine Basterfield. Good work up the right from Sophie Feboul and a pass back from the baseline resulted in Emma Peacock slotting in an equaliser.

Unfortunately, the Gryphs were unable to take it further and allowed two further breaks for Plymouth to score and take a well-earned three points.
