Portishead Cricket Club has been supported by the Somerset Cricket Board to set up a new girls’ softball team.

The Somerset Cricket Board has supported Portishead Cricket Club to start a new girls’ softball cricket team under the This Girl Can campaign.

This is led by Sport England to get more girls and women into sport to keep fit and healthy and enjoy playing and joining in sport.

Following the huge success of the Under-11 and 13 teams this year, a new ladies’ team is being formed for girls from age 14 upwards.

To help start this, a friendly match was played at Knowle and Portishead Ladies won by three runs in a 20-over match.

Most of the team had never played before, so this was a great win and a fun and friendly night finished off with cake and Prosecco.

Anyone interested in playing from age eight, please see the Portishead Cricket Club website for more information or email girlssoftballpcc@gmail.com for further details.

The ladies will have training with the Somerset Cricket Board and all kit is provided. Knowle will be returning to Portishead in September for a return match.
