THE next generation of England cricketers could develop in Nailsea after a cricket club received backing to help it roll out courses in schools.
MP Liam Fox with younsters and coaches from Nailsea Cricket Club Terry Robinson and Jo Pinkney, Nailsea School Charley Rogers and Frankie Allen and Somerset Cricket Board Andy Fairbairn.Nailsea Cricket Club has been awarded Chance to Shine status, which will see the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) help fund coaching for youngsters.
The foundation, backed by Ashes winner and England spinner Graeme Swann, aims to increase the number of pupils playing cricket in school.
Terry Robinson, the club’s manager, said: “We hope our high quality coaching in local state schools will have a huge impact.
“We aim to forge strong links with local schools to change the shape of cricket provision and participation in the area.”
The £50million charitable campaign aims to unearth the next Ian Botham or Andrew Flintoff and helped give about 350,000 children cricketing coaching last year.
