FAILAND and Portbury Cricket Club are
looking forward to the new season after much work over the last couple of months.

The small ground at Horse Race Lane, Lower Failand, has seen cricket played on the ground continuously since 1894. After purchasing about 1.75 acres, the playing area has been increased by nearly 65 per cent.

This has been helped by the generosity by the family of one of the club members, who stepped in and purchased the land.

Since then, the land has been fenced, hedges and trees uprooted, followed by the planting of over 1,900 hedge plants and seeding large areas of land which was finally completed at the end of March.

To aid the club in its preparations, 10 volunteers from Nat West Cricket Force will work with members at the club on April 10. With the help of these volunteers, club members and local support, it hoped 2011 will be a special year for Failand.

Volunteers of all shapes and sizes are welcome to come and see the ground and help with the preparations.
