Conservative A need just one point to claim the Clevedon & District Snooker League.

Conservative A needed a big win to take the Clevedon & District Snooker League title as they hosted BS20 Sports RH.

But home captain Ashley Hind could not get his team off to a good start and he lost the opening frame 65-19 to Paul Smart. Alan Pople won the second frame for the Clevedon team to level the match 51-22 against Des Gilbert.

A close frame followed and both players had chances, but it was the visiting captain Tony Eastham who beat Phil Daniels 59-48 to put his team back in front, before Mark Walsh once again levelled the scores with a 59-20 victory over Kevin King.

The pairs frame went to the hosts with Daniels and Walsh winning 65-40 against King and Smart. Final score Conservative A 3, BS20 Sports RH 2.

In Nailsea, BS20 Sports A also needed a big win to keep their outside chances of league victory alive. They got off to the best start with Steve King beating the Mizzymead player Trevor Yeo 75-40, before Paul Honess added a second frame for the visitors, beating Colin Tucker 50-26.

The match was won in the third frame 48-11 with Ron Reeves easing to victory over Frank Archer. However, Simon Cambridge pulled a frame back for the hosts by wining the fourth frame 45-27 against Pete Skinner.

Cambridge and Bob Selby were paired for the final frame of the night and narrowly lost out as they lost on the black ball to Honess and King 50-46. Final score Mizzymead1, BS20 Sports A 4.

There is now only one week of matches left and Conservative A need to win just one frame to take the title.

The league table reads: Conservative A 49 pts; BS20 Sports A 44; BS20 Sports RH 44; Mizzymead 28; and Conservative B 25. Mizzymead have now played all of their matches.
