Clevedon Ladies winning run came to an end on Saturday at the hands of Winscombe.

The home side started brightly and forced their visitors onto the back foot, Caitlin Meredith and Amy Dewfall brought saves from the Winscombe keeper and with Ella Davey and Tamsin DeBude forcing the pace from midfield, things were looking good.

Winscombe, however, had other ideas and surged forward to take the lead with a well-placed shot. The home defence came under pressure but keeper Christina Becker and defender Meg Coulter held sway.

Meredith and Davey combined to set up Dewfall who equalised for the home side. More good play saw Daisy Lacey come close scoring and Anna Barzotelli’s silky skills caused the visiting defence concern.

With the first half coming to a close, Winscombe forced the ball over the line to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Clevedon worked hard after the break, Rachel Elliot with some superb running from deep, Meredith, Barzotelli and Dewfall searched valiantly for openings but the visitors increased their lead.

Becker in home goal played well, however close to the end Winscombe took advantage of a tiring defence to score the final goal.

There is no game next week, Clevedon return to action on November 3 when they play Nailsea.
