Clevedon visited high-flying Nailsea and held their hosts up until the final 15 minutes.

The visitors had the full complement of Barzotelli’s in their ranks, but it was Nailsea who were first to show forcing Clevedon’s defenders to work hard.

Then Clevedon broke out and with Beth and Anna Barzotelli leading the attack, they asked questions of the home defence. Nailsea eventually took the lead but Clevedon responded as Beth Barzotelli equalised.

The visiting midfield were in control with Ella Davey and Eliza Barzotelli holding sway and they were aided by an impressive debut performance from Ellen Armstrong to back up the Clevedon attack.

A goal from Davey gave Clevedon the lead, before visiting keeper Christina Becker produced some smart saves but in the final minutes of the half Nailsea squeezed the ball home to go into the break on level terms.

After the break, the visitors with Vicky Ford and Meg Coulter blunting the home attack allowed Beth Barzotelli to put Clevedon 3-2 ahead.

Clevedon surged forward with Davey and Anna Barzotelli pressuring the home defence, but Nailsea then showed why they are top of the league.

Taking their chances well they drew level and went ahead despite the best efforts of Libby Barzotelli in the Clevedon defence.

The visiting attack still posed some questions of Nailsea’s defence but were unable to make the breakthrough as Nailsea went on to win 5-3.
