Clevedon Athletic Club members took part in the first Gloucester Cross Country League meeting.

The first fixture of the Gloucester Cross Country League took place last Saturday at Blackbridge.

The mild conditions were favourable and produced some great running. Congratulations to new member Jed Bartlett who came home in third place in an outstanding time of 28.57 around the three-lap course.

He was followed by Steve Wood (43rd, 32.29), Phil Collins (51st, 33.09), Lee Southernwood (66th, 33.47), Gary Lewis (96th, 34.56) and Tom Abrahams (99th, 35.03), placing the men’s team in a great sixth position.

The men’s V65 category and the ladies ran two laps and Laura Meech was first home for Clevedon in a great time of 25.20 and 26th position. Marie Lochrie was next home (126th, 31.54), followed by Malcolm Roberts (133, 32.21) and Elaine Heyes (147th, 33.58).

Off-road running was also enjoyed by several members who took part in the Mendip Outdoor Pursuits 10k. In its second year, the event starts at the Snowsports Centre in Churchill and takes runners up over the glorious and challenging Mendip Hills, covering a mixture of stony tracks, woodland trails and open countryside. Congratulations to Jim Hardcastle who finished in a great time of 55.39, 10th place overall and third VM40. Also running were Sally Richards (1.11.23), Charlotte Gray (1.15.17), Steph James and Kerry Coombes (1.22.50) and Clare Holdaway (1.41.32).
