CLEVEDON Amateur Swimming Club’s up-and-coming stars have been in action over the last two weeks, competing in two league competitions featuring the club’s younger swimmers.

Gaining experience in a friendly, but competitive swimming environment is vital to the more novice swimmers for their development and the Bristol Hotspring sponsored club use the Four Seasons series of galas to give their young swimmers this opportunity for development.

The first Four Seasons of the year was at Backwell, and, while the team did not win, they did amass a total of 21 personal best times out of 34 individual swims.

These PBs were achieved by Elena Crossan, Oscar Gall, India Gibson, Teiann Mole, Jack Bishop, Livvie Finnie, Thomas Appleford, Izzie Varney, Lee Mole, Agnes Gay, Jonathan Warrellow, Alice Melson, Alfie Gardner, Ruby May Hawkins, Tabitha Cameron-Kettle, Joe Turner, Josh Scammell, Lily Tayler and Jamie Skinner.

At the next level up, more youngsters travelled to Horfield the following week to compete in the Mini Series league.

Competition is strong in this series with a dominant Soundwell team leading the way. The Clevedon swimmers put on a great show and battled it out with Bishleaze, but the combined team from two Bristol clubs proved a challenge too far and Clevedon finally secured third position after an exciting night of swimming.

Vital wins came from the girls’ 10-and-under medley relay team of Kirsty Cornish, India Gibson, Nelly Bridger Morales and Megyn Hawker, with the boy’s 11-and-under team of Joel Holdaway, Oscar Gall, Finlay Smith and Joel Lomax also picking up maximum points.

Individual wins came from breaststroke specialists Keziah Douglas, who won both the 11-and-under and 12-and-under 50m breaststroke and Charlie Durnell for the boys in the 50m breaststroke 13-and-under category.

Personal best times were also achieved by Ellie Varney, Livvie Finnie, Kelsie Carter, Flo Tayler, George Symonds, Kirsty Cornish, Joel Holdaway, Keziah Douglas, Olivia Goss, Megyn Hawker, Nelly Bridger Morales and Oscar Gall.

Clevedon are currently looking for more seven to nine-year-olds, in particular boys, to provide the next generation of competitive swimmers.

If your child currently enjoys lessons at a local swim school, can swim a length (25m) of each stroke, but would like to try the excitement of competitive swimming, then contact the club for more details.

With a dedicated team of qualified
teachers and coaches and a solid structure in place which allows for perfecting technique and developing each child according to their ability, swimmers can enjoy the excitement and fun of competitive swimming.
