The new bowls season got underway with Clevedon playing a mixed friendly match against West Backwell.

The season got underway last week at Clevedon with a friendly mixed match against local club West Backwell.

Rain caused West Backwell Bowling Club’s opening bowls drive to be abandoned.

However, several members rolled up later in the week in glorious sunshine.

New members are always welcome. Come along on a Friday evening for club night at 6pm to ‘have a go’ – dress code casual, but please wear flat-soled shoes. The bar will be open.

A very enjoyable afternoon of bowls was enjoyed by all those who took part in the Spilling Cup match against Portishead, with the home side winning 227-140.

Next Saturday and Sunday, Portishead RBL is having open days. If anyone wishing to take up bowls or an existing player who has recently moved to the area, please come along between 10.30am and 4pm.

Clevedon Promenade Bowling Club is holding an open day on May 6 from 10am-4pm.

Free equipment and coaching is available and complimentary light refreshments are available.

If you are unable to attend on the day, come along on Saturday mornings (10am-noon) or Tuesday evenings (6.15-8pm). Flat-soled shoes or trainers would be useful to play in.
