Yatton Junior FC Under 14s were crowned the Woodspring U14 Cup champions on Saturday 27th after a dominant display saw them win 5-2 over Burnham FC U14s.

The Yatton squad sit 3rd in the table on 20 points with a game to go in the league and have recorded some big wins over good opposition, but winning some silverware has put the cherry on top.

Yatton started the brighter of the two teams in the final and it didn’t take them long to find the back of the net.

A ridiculous finish from Elijah Pavey, who chipped the ball over the keeper and into the far corner from 40 yards out, made it 1-0 to Yatton in the opening minutes of the game and the North Somerset youth side did not slow down from there.

Yatton’s second goal came moments later, team top scorer Josh Palmer stepped up and calmly slotted home from an excellent Pavey through ball, making it 2-0.

Burnham were not going to go down without a fight though and hit back with the next score of the game, a fierce freekick was saved by James Vowles but Burnham were there to convert the rebound to make it 2-1.

Burnham continued to pile on the pressure, but the central defensive pair of Josh Roberts and Dan Taylor held firm.

Breathing space came just before half time, Roberts played in Palmer whose classy touch, spin and finish gave his team their third and put Yatton 3-1 up at half time.

The second half started much like the first one for Yatton, and they found themselves in front of goal within minutes yet again.

Zac Broome’s first-time ball was weighted to perfection for the onrushing Palmer who rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle to put his team 4-1 up and complete his hat trick.

Burnham hit back quickly again though, a good goal from their number 10 made it 4-2.

But Yatton restored their three-goal lead not long after, Connor Kay made a mazy run into the opposition box and was brought down for a penalty, which he converted himself to make the final score 5-2.

It was a day to remember for the Yatton boys, who can be proud of themselves after all 15 players made a great impact on the game, allowing captain Josh Roberts to lift the trophy after a well-deserved victory.
