Cleeve Lawn Tennis Club hosted their first tournament of the summer season this weekend in their Junior Tennis Competition.

The tournament took place on April 14th, and was a team competition between local clubs Cleeve, Congresbury tennis club and Wrington tennis club, with the junior players competing in both singles and doubles matches.

Play between the three clubs was phenomenal all day, the participants were exceptional and demonstrated attitude positivity and good sportsmanship far beyond their years.

The wholesome atmosphere was also helped by the kind weather and fortuitous lack of rain, something that threatened to cancel the event altogether.

It was the home club Cleeve that came out on top at the end of the day though, their players receiving the winner’s trophy whilst all participants were awarded medals to celebrate their performances throughout the day.

The tournament was organised by Cleeve head coach John Tate along with local group Yeo Valley Lions, a group of volunteers who aim to help the local communities of Yatton, Claverham, Congresbury, Cleeve, Wrington, and Langford by organising activities and events.

This was the second year the Lions helped organise the inter-club tournament which will now be ran as an annual event at the lawn tennis club.

The club will also be hosting an open day on April 28th, offering an opportunity for players of any level to get involved and join the club.
