Nailsea Lawn Tennis Club held their Finals day recently on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year, both in terms of quality of the tennis and the weather.

First up were the juniors, which was hotly contested, with Paolo Seccatore overpowering Oscar Elliott to secure the under-11s crown and his first club trophy.

In the under-18s match Sam Gonzalez-Buckland, with his trademark forehand, clinched the championship tie-break in the third set to beat Oscar Barker.

In mixed doubles Rohan Weekes and Gamu Matarira beat Stefan Boss and Sue Ivens to take mixed double crown. In the Ladies doubles, it was Matarira back on the court with Ivens and the pair had to dig into reserves to overcome a staunch defence put up by Lisa Wood and Sarah Pink.

Richard Foggin and Chairman Jon Lawson, powered past Freddie Andrieu and Adam Waters in straight sets to lift the Men’s Double Trophy.

In the Ladies singles Matarira lifted her third trophy of the day, overcoming Wood in the third set to become the worthy winner of the Sue Ivens trophy.

In the Men’s singles, between Richard Foggin and Rohan Weekes, it turned into a very tactical match before Weekes secured a break-through in the third set to secure a much deserved win.
