Volunteers at Worle Youth Project aim to give youngsters a safe place to meet their friends and gain some independence.
At different times anyone from school years seven and up can drop in and enjoy activities like pool and table tennis or take part in arts and crafts activities. The group is also trying to get five-a-side football started on a Monday night.
At the meeting on Tuesday night, some members learnt about black history while others just chilled out and had a coffee and a chat.
The project has a structured programme of activities but youth workers Debbie, Dave, Cath, Stuart and John, are keen to let the youngsters choose the things that they would like to do. They are also on hand if anyone wants an informal and confidential chat about anything.
Members of Worle Youth Project also get to choose the rules they all follow when they meet each week. Some of the rules they have decided on so far include 'no smoking', 'treat everyone with respect' and 'be or stay safe.'
Youth workers will also help members to work towards specific certificates like the Duke Of Edinburgh Award and the North Somerset Award.
Debbie and the team have a number of plans for the project in the future. They are hoping to organise a Christmas trip, perhaps shopping or ice skating.
They also held a disco recently and because it was such a success they are hoping to hold another one in the run-up to the festive season.
There is no need to call before popping in to see what the group sessions entail. Just turn up on the appropriate night and give it a go.
