Worle Lions Club is part of an organisation which has members all over the world.
The local branch covers Worle, St Georges, Wick St Lawrence and Banwell.
Since 1999 members have raised over 60,000, which has been donated to lots of different good causes.
The club puts the word fun into fund-raising, and since last July it has held a treasure hunt, sponsored walk, family fun day, ferret racing and a barn dance and has collected at Weston carnival, Morrisons supermarket in Locking Castle and at Sainsburys in Worle. It also held an Easter egg draw in most of the pubs in the Worle area.
The group also runs horse race nights, which raised anything between 900 and 2,000.
This summer you will see the club at Worle Traders Summer Fayre on July 26 and it is also holding a treasure hunt on July 29 at The Manor pub, off Queensway, Worle. The fun starts at 2pm.
The big event of the year, the family fun day will be held on August 27 at Baytree Recreation Ground, off Milton Road, from 12noon-4pm.
Watch out for more action packed events towards the autumn and winter.
So far this year the club has donated in the region of 10,000 to the Weston Super Kids Appeal, which is funding a new childrens ward at Weston General Hospital. It has also donated to a number of other good causes in the area, including Miller Farm Residential Home in Worle High Street and Springboard Opportunity Group, based at Ashcombe Primary School, Weston.
Worle Lions Club has joined forces with other like-minded groups to raise funds for the new childrens hospice at Charlton Farm, Wraxall, and last October members presented a joint cheque for nearly 84,000 to the charity.
The group is particularly keen to help good causes in the Worle area. It has helped junior football clubs, scouts, cubs and girl guides. It has sponsored a football team, netball team and this year it is sponsoring Weston Spirals Majorettes.
