For 1 a week, members enjoy two games of scrabble, a coffee and a chat, and the chance to broaden their vocabulary and impress their friends on the meaning of 'asbestosis' or 'porphyria'. In case you are wondering, they are both nasty diseases.
The club was started in 1979 by husband and wife Len and Flora Cook, and now, 28 years on, the club has 38 members - and the number is rising.
Chairman Brenda Wall said: "I'm the only original member left in the club now, but we have new people joining all the time. Our youngest ever member was 15, but he left to concentrate on school. We also have people in their 90s playing, so it's a mixed bunch."
The club is doing well in the south west leagues and regularly sends teams of four off for head to head tile challenges.
Brenda said: "We've won lots of cups and trophies in the past. Recently we held the Edith Badman Cup, an annual award for the highest scoring member for a two game cup match. The winner was one of our members, Gavin Fear."
The group plays in knockout competitions and sometimes holds charity contests, to raise money for local groups.
New members start in a lower group and are given a list of three and four letter words to help them get started. After that, you move into the higher group and you're on your own.
Brenda added: "It's amazing some of the bizarre words people come up with. They usually involve Qs and Zs and score very highly.
"Our star member at the moment is Frank Hall, who is a retired postman, so maybe making all those letter and magazine deliveries over the years has helped provide him with some inspiration."
One hundred tiles, 225 squares and numerous possibilities - let the games begin.
