Formed in the Spring of 1993, Weston Savoyards is renowned for its high quality, colourful and, most importantly, enjoyable performances.
Established by current musical director, Greta Plank, and five other theatrically minded individuals, the society soon gained enough members to put on its first concert, A Century of Gilbert and Sullivan, which was staged at the Winter Gardens in the autumn of 1993.
The first time the members trod the boards at The Playhouse was in 1995 when they performed HMS Pinafore.
Since then, the group has gone on to reproduce 13 Gilbert and Sullivan operettas there, as well as numerous other concerts at venues across North Somerset.
Weston Savoyards is now a registered charity and aims to educate members of the public on the subject of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
However, the group also enjoys rehearsing and performing work from a diverse range of composers.
Only last autumn the budding actors and actresses appeared in a series of concerts based on excerpts from The White Horse by Benatzky and Stolz.
At the moment they are rehearsing for a triple concert, which will incorporate pieces from Les Miserables, Finians Rainbow and Gilbert and Sullivan classics.
New members are welcome to join the group in time for its next set of performances. So if you would like to enjoy singing and dancing with a group of like-minded people, you know what to do!
