Ageing is an inevitable process, but is doesn't have to be a negative one.
Weston Over 50s Sports and Social Club helps its members stay fit, active and healthy by taking part in enjoyable exercise.
Tennis, badminton and swimming are just some of the activities members take part in.
Club chairman Gerald Grosse, better known to his pals as Gerry, says his members are encouraged to 'make friends and to take part in friendly competition'.
The 72-year-old said: "We cater for all abilities here, from people who have played sports all their lives and want to step down a gear, to those who simply want to give something a go.
"I think it is important for people to get involved as keeping the mind and body active is a good thing."
Although the club boasts around 280 members, about 70 turn up for each session, otherwise, as Gerry points out, there would be little space for anyone else.
Gerry, who lives with his wife Gillian on Bleadon Hill, added: "For the social side, we arrange day-trips and barn dances.
"Already this year we have been to Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, Torquay and the Royal Horticultural Society's Rosemore Gardens in Devon."
The organisation also raises cash for charities and adopts a different one each year, chosen by its members.
In years gone past, the RNLI and the Alzheimer's Society have benefited from money raised by members holding raffles on coaches.
Gerry said: "We are always keen to see new faces and our members are drawn from across the district, although the majority are from the town.
"My secret to remaining fit and healthy is not to overdo it and to know your limits."
