Weston Choral Society is known to have existed since 1865 but there is some evidence it could date back as far as 1840.
The group says its aim is to bring good choral music to the people of Weston and the surrounding district. It gives concerts twice a year, at Christmas and in the Spring.
Members tend to be more mature singers but the society is actively seeking to recruit younger budding musicians.
Musical director Ray Willis has been in his post for three years and is a professional musician, qualified organist and music teacher.
Since joining the group he has introduced members to voice training and development exercises that can be tried out in the rehearsal room, at home or even in the car.
Richard Baker is always on hand at meetings to provide the musical accompaniment to the groups glorious singing.
He is described by the societys publicity officer, Gordon Pritt, as an extremely talented pianist.
Weston Choral Society always welcomes new members and is urgently looking to expand its tenor section.
The groups next concert will be held in All Saints Church in All Saints Road, Weston, on May 12 at 7.30pm. The concert will be dedicated to the music of Mozart and tickets, priced 8, are available in advance from Weston Hospicecares shop in Waterloo Street, Weston. They will also be on sale on the door on the night.
