The caf has 10 computers that people can use to surf the net, play games or chat online. Older members of the group also offer homework help for the younger ones.
Manager Alex Cook, aged 18, said: Everyone thinks we are just a load of computer geeks but it is not true. We have loads of fun at the meetings and it is a social thing, not just a row of people staring at screens.
We organise day trips out and recently went paintballing in Bristol. We want to organise more events though, especially over the summer.
The atmosphere when we meet is really chilled out and relaxed and we would really like to encourage more people to come along.
The group regularly holds gaming tournaments at meetings, with prizes for the winners.
The eSports Caf has also been granted a licence to show films at its meeting place, The Hayloft in The George Hotel, but movies are usually limited to a 15-rating so younger members of the group are not excluded.
Members pay 1.50 per session and non-members pay 2. A years membership is 6. Fees are used to pay the IT for the Terrified, group, which also uses the room, to help towards costs of electricity and the rest of the money is spent on new equipment.
Alex added: We are planning a massive re-launch in the second week in July. Hopefully we will have parents, teachers and television crews here to see what the group is all about and really get it publicised. We want to showcase our group and prove we arent the stereotypical computer nerds.
We want members of all ages and both genders to come along and join in the fun.
