ANYONE interested in learning Ireland's beautiful language should join Weston's newly-established Gaelic group.
It began earlier this year after founding member Trish Evans placed an advert in the Weston & Somerset Mercury.
Trish said: "The response was amazing and we are sure there are more people in the area who will enjoy the fun of learning Irish together."
Some members took Irish at school and wanted to revisit the subject again, but there are no exams and no penalties for unfinished homework.
The group uses a variety of modern learning materials, not just reading and writing but also DVDs and CDs, including easy to sing Irish songs suitable for everyone. It is supported by Christy Evans, founder of Colaiste n'an Gael, the UK's Irish Language College. He visits members monthly to provide specialist tuition and help.
Trish added: "An important thing about our group and Colaiste n'an Gael is that neither has any political or religious leanings.
"For example it is no problem that I come from Belfast and I'm the only member from Northern Ireland. I just feel at home when I am with the group. They are so friendly and kind and help me to reconnect with my roots.
"There are a lot of people like myself who live in this country and have made it their home but were born in Ireland or who are of Irish descent. But our group is not exclusive. Many people spend time in Ireland these days of easy travel and love the country and its people.
"This is why we take an interest in Irish music or cultural events in the area.
We welcome all-comers who have in common a yearning for the Irish language."
