Lonely elderly people can enjoy the company of others by joining the Contact the Elderly club in Worlebury.
The club is especially for people who are over 75 and want to reignite their social lives and meet people who are in similar circumstances.
Club gatherings take place in informal surroundings and include tea, biscuits, cakes and a good chat.
The social events are held once a month from 3-5pm and members can be picked up from their houses.
The club has helped elderly people make new friends and given them something to put in their social diaries.
Club volunteer Peter Hull said: It is for people who do not have relatives close by and have no opportunity to get out.
For many people it is the only time they will go out and see people. Everyone has a really good chat, a cup of tea, biscuits and a cake. We meet in a volunteers house at 3pm for about two hours.
It is the only branch in the area. All the volunteers help out with the food and driving. Most of our members are single people and find it difficult to get out.
Some of our members have been referred to us by social services, and are people in need of a social life. We are in need of people who drive at the moment.
Contact the Elderly is a national charity that was established in 1965. The number of clubs it has across the country is growing all the time.
It is also used specifically by social services and other health providers as a service to relieve the feeling of isolation and loneliness of elderly folk.
