A TASTY cake can be transformed into a masterpiece by the members of Bleadon Sugarcraft Club.
Whether it is a delicate rose on a wedding cake, or cute animal on a child's birthday cake, their nimble figures can turn sugar into a centrepiece.
The club has something for everyone, from the complete beginner looking for ideas, to the more experienced sugarcrafter wanting to share their skills.
Evening meetings are friendly and consist of a varied programme of professional demonstrators each month. These include presentations on making sugar flowers, modelling, royal icing and various other techniques.
Secretary Sue Dennelly said: "Our 'have a go' evenings are very popular. We make sugarcraft items in small groups and help learn from each other.
"Our fun evenings also include a raffle and tea, coffee and biscuits.
"Because we have a large group, we even video demonstrators so that close-up work can be seen by everyone, wherever they sit."
The group is part of the National Sugarcraft Association and so each member has insurance cover for their cakes.
The club is currently gearing up for the annual Sugarcraft Show, which will be held at the Winter Gardens in Weston, on December 6, from 10am-3.30pm.
The event is held in aid of charities and last year 1,500 was raised for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and Children's Hospice South West.
This year's money will go to Children's Hospice South West and Weston Hospicecare.
For the show, members are busy making items for their own themed display table, which this year is entitled 'Christmas Songs'.
They also make homemade cakes and items to sell. These can include plaques which can be used on the top of cakes.
On top of all this hard work, members also contribute items for a tombola, hamper raffle and one of the sugarcrafters makes a decorated fruit cake to raffle.
There will also be a children's table so youngsters can have a go at learning the skill and professional demonstrations throughout the day
Bleadon Sugarcraft Club is open to all ages and anyone wishing to join is welcome to go along to meetings.
