African carnival at zoo to celebrate world lion day

A carnival featuring acrobats, African dancers, drummers and animals will take place at a Wraxall zoo this weekend.

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, in Clevedon Road, will celebrate world lion day by hosting a carnival on Saturday from 10.30am-5pm.

The zoo farm is home to two lions, Masai and Arusha, and visitors will be able to hear a special big cat keeper talk.

The event will raise money for the Safina Lion Conservation Trust and dances will be performed by Unika Dance Events.

Three parades will take place at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Emma Godsell, the zoo’s head carnivore keeper, said: “Lions in the wild are vulnerable to extinction and so it is important we are able to raise awareness of their struggle and fundraise for their conservation.”
