A Wraxall zoo has welcomed a new addition.

A zebra foal was born at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, in Clevedon Road, on September 19.

Zebra foals are born with their stripes, although they appear brown and white, and they are able to stand on their own within 15 minutes of birth.

During the first few days the mothers will keep their calves close by and limit contact with other zebras, allowing them to form close bonds.

Emma Green, head African animal keeper at the zoo, is pleased with how the young zebra is progressing.

She said: “We are overjoyed at the arrival of the foal.

“She is certainly a character and she loves to frolic around the field close to her mother.”

Visitors can see her in the Africa section surrounded by the giraffes, rhinos, ostriches and African pygmy goats.

The zoo has decided to ask the public to help name the young foal.

Visitors can vote on their favourite name on Noah Ark’s Facebook page.
