TRAIN passengers have been hit by long delays and cancellations following vandalism to the rail network this morning and the misery is set to continue throughout the day.
Services passing through Weston, Worle, Highbridge & Burnham, Yatton and Nailsea & Backwell stations are all affected.
A First Great Western spokesman said routes between Taunton and Bristol are blocked and the delays are being caused by a cable theft along the line.
Bus replacement services are currently in force between Weston and Bristol in both directions.
The spokesman said: “Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised at short notice.”
The disruption is expected to last throughout the day as repair work is carried out around Parson Street station.
Trains are now able to pass through the affected area but the number it can accommodate is fewer than normal.
He added: “Cross Country services are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.
“Arrangements have been made for FGW rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys and we are also accepting Cross Country tickets via any reasonable route.”

Nightmare at WsM station today at 8.30. There was about 200 waiting for a replacement bus to Bristol, the driver telling staff he could only take about 30. A train was in the station and it was announced that it was going to Bristol but would not stop at any stations on the way.

This is just an unfortunate delay caused by mindless thrives. Let's hope they are caught and severely punished. Train travel remains environmentally and socially superior to road travel. There are many road delays EVERY day.

Glad I don't use the train. My drive takes 75 minutes which would be over 2 hours by rail. Oh and a tank of diesel is less than half what a weeks season ticket costs. I prefer the train but can't afford the cost or the extra time.

Nice 2 hour journey in by road, rather than the usual 30 minute train journey
