Projects hoping to improve female participation in sport could secure funding from a new grant scheme.

The This Girl Can scheme, which has helped almost three million people become more active, is now available in North Somerset and offering grants of up to £250 sports groups.

The scheme, in conjunction with North Somerset Council, is hoping to entice more women and girls aged 14-60 who have never taken part in regular physical activity into sport.

A council spokesman said: “The funding can contribute towards facility hire, equipment, coaches, training and volunteer expenses.

“This Girl Can is a Sport England initiative

created in 2015 and has supported over 2.8 million women to become more active.”
