A dementia awareness event will be held in Portishead next month.

To coincide with dementia awareness week, The Poacher pub will host stalls providing information to people diagnosed with the illness and those interested in finding out more about it.

The event is being organised by Portishead Dementia Action Alliance – a group of volunteers who are keen to make the area better for people affected by dementia.

It follows on from a roadshow at Somerset Hall in November which attracted many people looking for help.

Brenda Birkinshaw, of the alliance, said: “There are so many people who are affected by dementia and we want everyone to know that there is help and support available.

“Nobody should feel alone, and we are having the awareness day so people can come along and chat, and to get useful information and contacts.”

It will run from 2-4pm on May 25 at the pub, in Portishead’s High Street.
