The donations are to commemorate the centenary of Lions organisations and the 40th anniversary of the Portishead group beginning its charitable deeds.

A Portishead Lions spokesman said: “It was decided to present the town with two benches.

“These have now been installed by Portishead Town Council on the path leading from the marina towards Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve.

“Walkers can take a rest and look north across the estuary towards the Severn Bridges.

“In the near future plaques will be fixed on the benches to remind walkers who provided the resting place.

“Portishead Lions hope that the new seats will give lasting pleasure to many people over the coming years.”
