Portishead's Christmas lights switch-on in 2017.

Portishead will see a brand new Christmas display light up the town this year.

Starting on top of Masterkey in The Precinct, the display will include some new and improved features for 2018.

The Christmas lights committee earned £1,000 to spend at Blachere Illuminations after reaching the final of a national competition.

The group has spent this money on an illuminated 12-inch reindeer and sleigh motif.

A new 10-inch Christmas tree will be put up in the grounds at St Peters Lodge in High Street while around 1,000 new LED bulbs are to be bought.

To mark the centenary of the end of World War One, trees with new LED bulbs will have a red, white and blue theme.

Other improvements to this year’s display will include installing lights on trees on the traffic islands in Wyndham Way and upgrading lights on the St Peter’s Church tower.
