Police and fire service welcome public for annual open day event

Thousands of people visited Portishead’s police and fire headquarters at the weekend for an annual open day.

Exciting demonstrations and displays were put on by police dogs and the mounted section while the police firearms team and Avon Fire and Rescue Service also showcased their abilities.

Children were also entertained throughout the day by testing out some of the state-of-the-art equipment.

Information stands were also set up for visitors to explore.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: “Many of our younger visitors became young detectives for the day, joining our major crime investigations team to investigate a very special open day crime, as well as exploring the many emergency service vehicles on display.
