Surfer thanks Nailsea community for supporting English team

A Nailsea surfer has praised everyone who provided sponsorship to enable him to manage the English surf team at a competition in China.

Phil Williams, who organises the Nailsea Community Skatepark Festival, was chosen to manage the English team at the World Longboarding Surfing Championships last month.

Phil, who has been a surfer for more than 40 years, appealed for help to raise hundreds of pounds so he and the athletes could attend the games. The surfers needed to raise £1,500 each.

Phil said: “It was a very successful campaign, with the team finishing fifth in the world.

“We were also fifth in the Aloha Cup again just missing out by two points on medals.

“All of this could not have been possible the assistance of so many individuals and local companies, including Butterfly Travel, Wild Beer, Spoke & Stringer, Finisterre, The Wave, Portside Gallery and Forever Fin.”
