A pedestrian has died following a fatal crash in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

The incident occurred on the A369 in Abbots Leigh at about 5am.

The victim has not been publicly named at this stage.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: “We have closed the A369 at Abbots Leigh following a fatal road traffic collision at 5am today.

“A car was in collision with a pedestrian on Abbots Leigh Road, near Leigh Warren.

“The pedestrian received treatment at the scene before being taken to Southmead Hospital (in Bristol) by ambulance but has sadly died.

“The A369 has been closed to allow collision investigators to carry out an examination of the scene.”

The A-road is popular with people visiting the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta at Ashton Court.

Police are advising festival goers to find a different route.

The spokesman said: “The road is expected to remain closed for several hours and could have an impact on anyone attending the balloon fiesta. They could face delays and are advised to find alternative routes.

“The A369 is closed at its junction with Manor Road and the Abbots Leigh Road and Beggar Bush Lane junction with the A369.”
