Cuddly film favourite Paddington has helped Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema to enjoy ‘astonishing’ opening weekend takings.
The lovable bear’s sequel movie Paddington 2 saw screenings sell out at the 105-year-old cinema in Old Church Road.
Young movie-goers not only saw the film, but also enjoyed themed activities where they made Paddington suitcases out of matchboxes with marmalade treats inside.
Curzon general manager Luke Doran told the Times Paddington is following in James Bond’s footsteps.
He said: “The ticket sales for Paddington 2 have been astonishing. The film opened on Friday and we sold out for two screenings on Saturday and Sunday, filling our 320-seat auditorium.
“Between Friday and Sunday, in all 1,841 people enjoyed Paddington 2 at the Curzon.”
“The last time we saw such high numbers was for Spectre in 2015; Paddington 2 has far outdone that.”
