A 13-year-old musician from Yatton has won a place in the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.

Olivia Bird only started playing the trumpet three-and-a-half years ago but her natural talent has shone through sufficiently for her to win a spot with the prestigious group.

Olivia is a member of Lions Brass 4 Youth and her success comes as no surprise to its musical director.

Tutor Davie Hollister said: “I am very proud of Olivia’s achievement and Lions Brass 4 Youth considers this another great success for the organisation.”

Olivia, who attended Yatton Junior School before moving up to Backwell School, recently played in a concert for the Yeo Valley Lions and the charitable organisation was mightily impressed.

Former president Kevin Moore congratulated Olivia on her success. He said: “The continued success of Lions Brass 4 Youth also reflects the support given by Lions clubs in the South West, particularly by those in North Somerset.”
