One of British television’s most famous faces stopped by St Peter’s Hospice to lend a hand with its fundraising.

Stephen Merchant, who is known for his roles in The Office and Extras with Ricky Gervais, saw how its rebuilding project is going.

The Bristol actor is backing the Room To Care Appeal, in which about £1.5million is being raised to pay for a new inpatients unit.

The appeal means a lot to him because of his family.

Johnny Flanagan, St Peter’s head of supporter relations, said: “Stephen visited the hospice with his parents Ron and Elaine to show his support.

“Stephen spent time with patients, staff and volunteers.

“The hospice cared for his grandmother 28 years ago and the family have continued to support the hospice since. Stephen was particularly interested to see how the new building will allow the hospice to provide better care for more people in the local area.”
