Carers in North Somerset who are not receiving the support they need are being urged to come forward.

Notaro Homecare (NHC) enables people with a wide range of illnesses and disabilities to live in their own homes, by providing them with the right care and support to meet their needs.

Staff at NHC believe there are hundreds of people in the area who are caring for loved ones but not receiving any help to do this.

To Mark Alzheimer’s Month in September, staff are showing their support for hidden carers and the important role they play.

Nicky Norville, registered manager at NHC, said: “All our carers do fantastic work for our service users, working long hours to provide everything they need and we thank them for that, however there are hidden carers in today’s society that might be looking after friends or loved ones without receiving payments or recognition so we wanted to let them know that we support them.

“We want to help spread awareness and show our support so we’re offering any carers any help or advice they might need.

“All they need to do is give us a call on 01934 422800 and our expert staff will be more than happy to chat to them about care and share their experience as well as offer tips and any other support they can.

“If any hidden carers would like to know more about our respite care services or our dementia and live-in care services in order to take the pressure off themselves, they can give us a call.”

World Alzheimer’s Month was introduced to recognise and celebrate informal dementia carers and highlight what it means to be a carer.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the numbers are set to rise to more than one million by 2025.

One in six people over the age of 80 have dementia and more than 225,000 people will develop the condition this year – one every three minutes.

Notaro Homecare supports hundreds of people in their own homes and provides an extensive range of services, from daily calls and sleep-ins to bespoke live-in care services.

Notaro is one of three providers which has been awarded the contract for homecare provision across North Somerset for the next seven years.
