A North Somerset charity has celebrated the 20th anniversary of one of its successful clubs.

North Somerset Mencap has been supporting people with learning difficulties since it was launched in 1974.

It held the first session of its Cool Summer Club in 1997, providing activities and social opportunities for its users and has since gone on to become extremely popular.

Sessions put on by club organisers include sports, line dancing and cupcake decorating.

To celebrate the milestone, volunteers and visitors gathered at Nailsea Methodist Church for arts and crafts.

North Somerset Mencap also owns a supported living house in Clevedon for up to four adults who do not require support 24 hours a day.

More volunteers and committee members are also wanted to continue the club’s work in the future.

For more information on North Somerset Mencap and its work, call Jenny Tolhurst on 01934 838564.
