Libraries mark carers week

North Somerset Council

Libraries across North Somerset are supporting carers week this week.

The annual campaign raises awareness, recognises and celebrates the vital role of the UK’s 6.5 million carers.

North Somerset Council provides a home library service for people who cannot get there themselves, either for their own medical reasons or, like carers, they are busy with their responsibilities to visit.

Clevedon home service volunteer Pam said it is a ‘privilege’ visiting and getting to know people as part of the service.

Portishead volunteer Marion said she has four customers including one blind man.

She added: “My customers look forward to my visits, especially as some are housebound.

“As well as delivering the books I always allow time to have a chat. I find it very interesting to learn about their lives and interests.”
