Charity launches writing competition to inspire children

Budding poets and storytellers in North Somerset are being encouraged to enter a writing competition by education charity READ Foundation.
The theme is My Education Helped Me... and is open to adults until October 10.
The winner’s work will be displayed in more than 380 of the charity’s schools.
READ Foundation creates school places for children affected by poverty in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Gambia, Lebanon, Pakistan and Syria.
Writer and competition judge Qaisra Shahraz said: “The tone must be inspiring. The children who will see the winning entry have fought very hard to get to school – some walking hours a day.
“Reading an inspiring story or poem will, I’m sure, offer them a lot of encouragement and a goal to achieve and do well in education themselves.”
